📄 Daniel and Rachel Harrington anniversary items, 1913
A newspaper clipping from my archives describes the 50th anniversary celebration for Daniel Harrington (1834-1917) and Rachel Perham Clement (1838-1920):
On Nov. 10th the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Harrington was quietly celebrated at their home on South Union street, where they have resided for the past forty-five years, the only guests being the immediate family and a few near relatives. To this couple were born five children, all of whom are living and were present on this occasion: Mrs. Alice M. Winslow, who lives at home; Mrs. J. C. Reynolds of Mechanicville, N. Y.; Clement of Brooklyn, N. Y.; Preston of Nyack, N. Y.; Edwin of Mechanicville, N. Y. Mrs. Harrington's three surviving nephews were present: D. W. Clement of Simsbury, Conn.; A. F. Glines of Salem, N. Y., who as small boys attended their wedding, and W. C. Glines of Granville, N. Y. The other guests were Miss Helen Harrington, a grandchild, Mrs. P. M. Harrington, Mrs. A. F. Glines, Mrs. Nettie S. Clements and J. C. Reynolds. They received many kind remembrances, among which was over $500 in gold and a gold clock, the latter being a gift from their children. One very pleasant feature of the occasion was a call from Rev. Edwin Genge, pastor of the Methodist church, who presented them in behalf of the official board, of which Mr. Harrington is a member, fifty yellow chrysanthemums.
A typewritten poem in my archives, on the 50th anniversary of Daniel Harrington (1834-1917) and Rachel Perham Clement (1838-1920), from a friend:
The "POST" when it comes, we eagerly scan,
To learn all the news of friends, if we can
So much in surprise, to-day we read
That DANIEL and RACHEL fifty years had wed.
The miles between us are many and long
But our friendship still is firm and strong.
So to neighbors once, and friends still true
This little greeting I am sending you.
Neighbors were we for twenty-five years
We shared all this time, our joys, and tears
And never once a ripple or jar
That in the least would this friendship mar.
Blessed have you been, more than we often see
Not one break have you had in your family.
So to-day as you gather and none are missed
Surely you know you are richly blessed.
God's mercy and goodness around you are thrown
In ways that are many, has this been show
When the neighbors and friends, their wishes send
Please think of MOLLY and LOU way down at this end
For we both are sending our wishes true
That the years that are left may be golden for you.Very sincerely
Molly Baker
