Mary Elizabeth Torrence (1903-1980)
Mary Elizabeth Torrence Krutzke was second cousin to Katharine Spofford Tone (1904-1983) and Elizabeth Hosmer.
My family archives include letters written to her second cousins written in 1955 covering aspects of Torrence family history.
- In the letter to Elizabeth Hosmer,
- Her letter mentions visiting "Aunt Blanche" at the infirmary at the Methodist Home in Philadelphia. This appears to be Emma Blanche Torrence (1868-1925), not to be confused with her first cousin Emma Blanche Torrence (1868-1925).
- She includes a transcript of a journal by William G. Torrence from 1831. He seems to have been house hunting and looking for a new job. That fits since this is when he moved his family from Pennsylvania to Ohio. There are also a few random-seeming pages from a book covering Torrence family history starting with Hugh Torrence. Iβm not sure what the book.
- In the letter to Katharine Harrington she included copies of William G. Torrenceβs contract to teach schoolβ possibly the job heβs looking for in the journal, based on the date. Thereβs also a Civil War pass for Joseph E. Torrence. Both are a little hard to read (or maybe I just need more practice reading 19th century cursive).
