My archived have a letter to Sumner Larue Tone (1864-1942) from the State Library of Pennsylvania cerifying the Revolutionary War service of Hugh Torrence (1745-1830):

Harrisburg, Pa, Feb 15 1900

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:-

I hereby certify to the following Revolutionary service of Hugh Torrence or Torance:

Hugh Torrance was Adjutant of the 1st Battalion, Cumberland County Associators, July 31, 1777. Colonel, James Dunlap. For this reference see page 376, Vol.XIV, Penna. Archives, 2nd series.
