📄 McCabe genealogy

Included in the 📄 McCabe family history collection is a typed, undated, unattributed genealogy. Various handwritten notes are included, most likely by Sumner Larue Tone (1864-1942), who collected the history. Additions on the genealogy are included in the transcript below. At least some of the annotations were made no earlier than 1935, based on marking James F. Torrance (1871-1935) as deceased.

  8. Joseph E. McCabe. Born June 4, 1790. Glenn Sta. near Carnegie. Died Aug. 5, 1870. Age 74 years. His wife Margaret Fife born Dec. 6, 1791. Married June 8, 1812. Died July 29, 1831. His 2nd wife Elizabeth, born Jan 22 1803. Died June 23, 1855, Age 52Y - 5 Mos - 6 Days

  13. Peggy (Margaret) McCabe. Born Nov. 2, 1802. Died Sep 6 1814
  1. Margaret McCabe. Born Nov. 2, 1802. Died Aug. 28, 1880.
  2. Married William Gray Torrence July 15, 1821, who was born Mar. 2, 1799. Died May 1, 1878. Both lived, died and were buried at Wellsville, O. Her father refused his consent; but her step-mother favored here; and assisted her in her elopement from home.

  9. James Madison Torrence. Born at Guilford Ohio Feb. 17, 1837. Died Dec. 7 1884 in Wellsville. Married Mary Jane Peden, Nov. 1, 1862. She was born June 23, 1834. Died April 25, 1905.

  11. Sylvanus Torrence. Died in infancy.

Notes on the above:

  • Polly McCabe's entry at 7 reads exactly as shown above, with contradictory dates. The date of death and the age at death are both handwritten additions. It should probably read "Age 18 yr"
  • Ancestry shows an additional William McCabe born 1785, date of death unknown.
  • Calty, "probably Katy", is listed at Ancestry as Catherine.
  • The repeated line 13 seems to be the same person twice. The 1814 death date on the first is a handwritten addition and appears to be incorrect.
