Robert Clement (1595-1658)
First of the Clements to come to North America, and the subject of the opening of 📄 Sketch of the Clement Family, which describes his 1642 arrival in Massachusetts. Born in Cosby, Lecestershire, England, later lived in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
"Morrill Kindred in America" has this entry on pages 185-187 of volume 2:
...a founder of Haverhill, Mass., and father of our Sarah, b. 1626, d. 1694, who came to America with her father and most of her family in 1642. Robert was Deputy for 8 yenrs and owned a feet of vessels, including "Hector," "Griffin," "Job Clements" and "MInrgaret Clements." Some of these ships sailed the Thames at London.
Robert married before 1615, Lydia, who was buried in a tomb of the church at Ansley, Warwickshire, March, 1641-2, where they had been living since 1624. In 1617 their home was at Huncote, Leicestershire. Robert married 2d in America before 1651, Judith, who was living in 1669, having married again to John Whitney of Watertown, Mass. Lydia was the mother of all Robert's children.
