Sketch of the Clement Family

"Sketch of the Clement Family" is a document charting genealogy from the arrival of the Clement family in North America in 1642 through Harrington and Sandt descendants born in the mid 20th century.

The first page is an apparent photocopy of a handwritten document, which says that it was

received from Miss Elizabeth Clement, Matron of Old Ladies Home, Lowell, Mass. April 4, 1877.

The rest of the document is a typewritten transcript of the original handwritten document. It's not clear who made the typed version. I have two versions-- one has information up to the end of the 19th century, and the other has an extra page extending the history through the 1940s, plus handwritten annotations and additions. A letter from Elizabeth Lynch Sandt (1932-2019) to Preston Meeker Harrington III (1934-2017) says that the genealogy "...came from Helen to Lloyd Sr. in 1950 and later to Lloyd Jr." The included copy is a second copy of the annotated and expanded version, so those additions may be Helen's work.

The opening reads

Robert, John, and Job Clement with their sisters came to this country in 1642 and settled at Pentucket, now Haverhill, Mass.

Robert was one of the five to whom the town was deeded by the Indians. He was representative to the general court for the first six years after the town was incorporated.

John having shipped to England in 1650 was cast away. Robert being appointed his administrator charges the estate a voyage to England and Ireland.

John had four children, all daughters.

Job was married but had no children.

The document gives the impression that this is about Robert Clement (1634-1714). But as he would have been 8 years old when arriving in North America, the rest seems unlikely to be about him. More likely this is about his father, Robert Clement (1595-1658).

This copy is the only part I have of the handwritten original:

The rest of the document resembles the following:
